More than 50,000 servicemen are involved in the strategic exercise of the Pacific Fleet of the Russian Federation in the Sea of Okhotsk and the Sea of Japan.
In Russia, the strategic command and staff exercise (SKSHU) Vostok-2022 has begun, involving more than 50,000 military personnel, as well as more than 5,000 pieces of weapons and military equipment. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported this on Thursday, September 1.
According to the agency, we are talking about “conducting defensive and offensive actions” in the seven training areas of the Eastern Military District, as well as in the waters and coastal zones of the Sea of Okhotsk and the Sea of Japan. . The maneuvers involved 140 aircraft, 60 warships, boats and support ships.
Pacific Fleet ships have begun deployment at sea. The tasks of organizing anti-ship, anti-aircraft and anti-submarine defense in the Sea of Japan and east of the Kamchatka Peninsula have been resolved.
In the Sea of Japan, the groups of forces of the Pacific Fleet and the Chinese navy will conduct joint practical actions to defend sea lanes and areas of maritime economic activity, and to assist the land forces in the coastal direction.
In addition, they practice defeating enemy ship groups and amphibious assault forces in the Far Eastern island zone and near the Kamchatka Peninsula with rocket and artillery fire.
The exercises are followed by experts from countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and other partner states, including Azerbaijan, Belarus, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, and Tajikistan.
The maneuvers will last until September 7th.
It was previously reported that China would send troops to exercises in Russia. At the time, the Ministry of Defense of the PRC stated that it was “not related to the current international and regional situation,” apparently referring to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
