The second dry cargo ship, chartered by the UN World Food Program (WFP), left the port of Pivdenny in the Odessa region. This is what the representative of the UN Secretary General Stefan Dujarric said, reports Interfax-Ukraine on Wednesday, August 31.
“Another dry cargo ship with wheat destined for humanitarian aid in Yemen has departed from the port of Pivdenny. This is the second sea shipment of WFP food aid from Ukraine since the beginning of the conflict in February,” said Dujarric in a briefing.
According to him, there are 37,000 tons of wheat grains on board the ship Karteria. The dry-cargo ship will be inspected in Turkey, where the grain will also be ground into flour, packed and re-loaded onto a ship for shipment to Yemen.
As it is known, the first cargo ship Brave Commander chartered by WFP with wheat left Ukraine on August 21 and arrived at the port of destination in Africa Djibouti the day before. This ship is carrying over 23,000 tons of wheat for Ethiopia. This amount of grain is enough to feed 1.5 million people for a month.
