At a meeting in Prague, EU foreign ministers will consider measures aimed at further restricting visits to the European Union by Russian citizens.
EU foreign ministers may agree on some changes to the current rules for issuing visas to Russian citizens. This was announced on Monday, August 29, in an interview with Radio Liberty by the head of the European Union’s foreign policy department, Josep Borrell.
According to him, the foreign ministers of EU countries at a meeting in Prague in the coming days will approve measures aimed at further restricting visits to the European Union by Russian citizens. However, according to Borrell, there is no question of a complete ban on visas.
“When considering visa applications for Russian citizens, more attention in particular should be paid to the face of the applicant. We need to act more selectively. Do not deny entry to all Russians,” said Borrell .
He also noted that since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, about 300 thousand people have left Russia.
“Most of them are professionals, well-educated people who don’t want to stay in Russia anymore. They don’t want to go to the front and don’t support the war. They don’t want to live under Putin’s regime and they are leaving. In I don’t think we should close the door on them.” , – added the head of the EU foreign policy department.
It is known that an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers will be held in Prague on August 30-31.
Recall, according to the Financial Times, EU foreign ministers at an informal meeting in Prague are preparing to support the suspension of the visa facilitation agreement with Russia.
