The Ukrainian Armed Forces have launched a “formation” operation in the south of the country, which means preparing the battlefield for a significant counter-offensive.
This was reported by CNN, citing two senior US officials.
Formation is a standard military practice that involves strikes against weapons bases, command posts, and ammunition depots. Thus, the military is preparing a springboard for the upcoming counteroffensive.
CNN sources say the counteroffensive will involve a mix of air and ground operations.
Russia, which was also intensively preparing for hostilities in the South, was able to deploy less than half of its planned forces to the front line.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine have launched offensive operations in several directions on the Southern Front to liberate the occupied territories, Natalya Gumenyuk, a spokeswoman for the Yug Operational Command, said on August 29.
All the details will be after the operation, she added.
Many of the units that Russia organizes into Battlefield Tactical Groups (BTGs), which include infantry, tanks, artillery and air defense, are deploying at smaller numbers than intended, some lack “even half of the usual manpower.
Meanwhile, the Russians announced an evacuation in Nova Kakhovka.
