Federal government spokeswoman Christine Hoffmann recalled the Chancellor’s “sceptical” position regarding the advisability of a general visa ban for Russian citizens
At an informal meeting in Prague on August 30-31, EU foreign ministers plan to discuss issues related to the war in Ukraine and tourist visas for Russians. This was reported by Ukrinform.
“On Wednesday, the session on EU relations with Russia will focus on the war and support for Ukraine. The EU is long-term, we strive to continue to support Ukraine. At the same time, it is about the EU being more capable of acting and being resilient to the challenges “, – the representative of the German Foreign Ministry Christopher Burger said at a briefing in Berlin.
It is reported that on Wednesday, at a working lunch, European ministers will be joined by their counterparts from Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia.
Burger added that the meeting in Prague will also raise issues of cooperation with Russian civil society and the issuance of visas for Russians.
Federal government spokeswoman Christine Hoffmann recalled the Chancellor’s “skeptical” stance on the wisdom of a blanket visa ban for Russian citizens, saying it would play into the hands of Russian propaganda. At the same time, he said: Berlin understands that different EU countries have different views on this problem.
Recall that the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, does not support the idea of introducing a complete ban on visas for Russians.
