Currently, 285 people have tried to cross the border illegally. On average, it’s 12-15 people a day.
The number of attempts to illegally cross the border from the territory of Belarus to Latvia reached almost the same indicators as in August 2021 – one of the first months of the artificial migration crisis created by the regime of Alexander Lukashenko. This was reported by the publication LSM.
The head of the Daugavpils border guard department, Yuri Vlasovs, said that in August the situation began to escalate again and attempts to illegally cross the border became regular.
“In August, border tensions began to rise in connection with attempts to illegally enter the Republic of Latvia from Belarus. Currently, 285 people tried to cross the border illegally. On average, it is 12-15 people in one day. On August 2 and 3, there were several groups of 25 at the same time people who tried to illegally cross the Latvian border,” said Vlasovs.
In early August, the Latvian government decided to extend the state of emergency on the border, assuming that the hybrid pressure on the aid of migrants will continue, including to divert attention from the Russian war against Ukraine.
Note that Latvia has not issued tourist visas to Russians since February 24, 2022, but other countries continue to do so.
