Since the beginning of Russia’s massive invasion of Ukraine, funding for state media in the aggressor country has tripled. Most of the allocated funds were spent in March – during the active phase of the war. It was written by The Insider.
For example, 11.9 billion rubles ($ 145 million) were allocated in March, twice as much as in January and February combined. Last year, 5.4 billion rubles were allocated for the same period.
Media spending exceeded even army financing (an increase of 11%, up 824 billion rubles), spending on national security and law enforcement agencies (up 5.6%, up 501.6 billion rubles). As for social support for Russians, spending on it increased by only 6.5% (1.719 trillion rubles).
According to the publication, 115.8 billion rubles ($ 1.41 billion at the current exchange rate) will be allocated to the state media in Russia in 2022, of which:
