19 US states still allow corporal punishment. Most of them are located in the south of the country.
The Cassville School District in Missouri has reintroduced corporal punishment for students, which was abolished in 2001. This was reported by The Guardian.
The request of parents contributed to this, because they wanted more discipline, and not suspension from lessons.
Thus, the principal will use corporal punishment as a last resort if other disciplinary measures fail. At the same time, the sanctions will only be applied in the school in the presence of a witness who is not a student of the school. It will never be used in the presence of other students.
It will be possible to strike with just a stick on the butt. One or two hits will be given to younger students and up to three hits to older students.
“If it is necessary to apply corporal punishment, it must be applied in a manner that excludes the possibility of causing bodily harm or injury. Hitting a student on the head or face is not permitted,” the rules said.
It was previously reported that first-graders in Kazakhstan from the new academic year will no longer study Russian and English.
