Three police officers from Arkansas (USA) were suspended this Sunday after a video was released showing them beating a man they had arrested, local media reported.
A video circulating on social media shows the detainee being immobilized on the ground by three agents. One of them hits him repeatedly, even hitting his head on the ground, another kicks him in the body, and the third helps keep him still.
Two of the policemen are Crawford County Sheriff’s Deputies, and the third is a police officer from Mulberry, a town in Crawford County.
State Police Arkansas will be in charge of investigating the incident, Gov. Asa Hutchinson confirmed in a Twitter post.
“They will take appropriate action”
Crawford Police Chief James Damante confirmed the officers’ suspension.
“Appropriate action will be taken on this matter,” Damante assured, and the Mulberry police spoke in the same vein about their agent.
According to NPR radio network, a Tik Tok user named Naomi Johnson posted a video on the social network with the message: “My sister witnessed this today.” His video has been removed from the aforementioned network, although it appears in numerous tweets.
Police sources told local media that the incident occurred after Alma City police received a report about a man threatening a store clerk to “cut his face” and sending out “terrorist” messages.
The man left the store and rode his bike down the highway until the police stopped him. According to police, the detainee tried to escape and even attacked one of the policemen.
A man is in police custody after being taken to hospital with unspecified injuries and facing multiple charges, including assault and terrorist threats.
