Izyum residents on the brink of safety – Ombudsman

A humanitarian disaster was observed in the city of Izyum, Kharkiv region, occupied by Russian troops. Thousands of people remain without access to water and food. This was announced on Tuesday, April 12, by the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights Lyudmila Denisova.

“The city of Izyum is on the brink of safety. According to city authorities, there are now about 15,000 civilians in Izyum. Due to active fighting and occupation of the territory, there is no electricity, no water, no heat, no communication. medical institution is not working, There is no cure, “said the Ombudsman.

Denisova said the settlement has become a logistics center for the Russian army: troops are gathering there to further invade the Donetsk region. In this regard, it is impossible to deliver food to residents or evacuate them to a safe place.

Therefore, the Ombudsman called on the International Committee of the Red Cross to take all possible steps to open a safe humanitarian corridor for the evacuation of the civilian population from Izyum, and the UN Commission to investigate human rights violations in during the Russian military invasion of Ukraine. to consider the new facts of war crimes committed by the Russian army.
