Hearthstone: Voyage to the Sunken City now available

In addition, Core Set updates, with the return of 72 cards, are also now available

Journey to the Sunken City™, the new expansion for Hearthstone®, the critically acclaimed digital card game from Blizzard Entertainment, is now available, kicking off the Year of the Hydra with an underwater odyssey to the ruins of Zin-Azshari, an ancient civilization that sank during the Great Split over ten thousand years ago. Since then, local marine life has flourished, as illustrated by the 135 new Voyage to the Sunken City cards, filled with fishy friends and foes, plus wildlife for all sizes — and tastes.

In order not to become part of the food chain of the Great Ocean, players will need to conquer and ally with local creatures that lurk in the depths. Journey to the Sunken City brings Legendary Colossal minions for each class that bring appendages whenever they are summoned.

Locating these species can be made easier with the new Dragar keyword, which allows players to pick one of three cards from the bottom of the deck and place it on top to draw later. Dragar also synergizes well with the new Azsharian cards that send powerful “Submerged” treasures to the bottom of the deck. Combining this sea of mechanics creates a digging playstyle that encourages long-term thinking and well-planned decks.

But players must be careful when navigating the ocean floor, as it belongs to its cursed inhabitants. Journey to the Sunken City also features the Naga, a spell synergy minion type that often grants bonuses for playing spells with one in hand. Naga tagging has also been added to previously released Naga characters such as Naga Scamodium and Sand Witch Naga.

“Journey to the Sunken City offers Hearthstone a fun subversion of the fantasy of Nazjatar that players have come to know from Warcraft, and we believe it will be a big wave as our first expansion of the Year of the Hydra,” comments Mike Ybarra, president of Blizzard Entertainment. “The vibrant art, nautical-themed mechanics, and the introduction of the Naga minion type create an immersive new experience, and it will be great to offer it to players.”

Hearthstone Core Set and Set Rotation Update

Several changes have arrived in the Hearthstone Essentials Set, which is free for all players and can be unlocked by leveling up. With 57 cards coming out of the Essential Set and another 72 coming in — some adjusted for the current meta — it now adds up to 250 cards, 15 more than last year.

Of the cards that are back in the Essentials Set, it’s worth noting the original League of Explorers: Reno Jackson, Brann Bronzebeard, Elise Mirestela and Dom Finlei Mrrggltone. Other veteran favorites include Emissary of Chaos, Wild Pyromancer, Acolyte of Pain, Mossy Horror, Huntress Stealth, and Fandral Guenelmo.

The Set rotation also continues today, and cards from the Year of the Phoenix Sets — Ashes of Outland™, Scholomance University™, and Darkmoon Delusions™ — are now part of the Wild format. The Standard card pool now includes Year of the Griffin sets — Forged in the Barrens™, United in Stormwind™ and Divided in Alterac Valley™ — as well as Voyage to the Sunken City and Essential.
