The authorities are ahead of plans to fill gas storage facilities, but in the event of a stoppage in supplies, the reserves will only last a few months.
If Russian supplies were to stop, Germany would have enough gas reserves for less than three months. On Wednesday, August 17, according to Bloomberg.
Thus, according to the President of the Federal Grid Agency, Klaus Müller (the agency controls the country’s energy sector), the replenishment of gas reserves to 95% in November will cover the demand for heating, industry and electricity in in about 2.5 months if Russia completely stops supplies.
It was noted that currently the storage facilities are 77% full, which is two weeks ahead of plans for filling.
“We are filling the storage a little faster than before, but this is not a sign that we can relax. On the other hand, it should be understood as a push,” said Muller.
Given the risk of a colder-than-usual autumn and the possibility of further supply disruptions, the government’s target of 85% storage capacity by October could be challenging, he said.
It was previously reported that Germany reached the target of 75% coverage of storage facilities two weeks earlier than planned. The next target is 85% by October 1st.
