President Volodymyr Zelensky called on the international community to impose new sanctions against the nuclear industry of the Russian Federation because of weapons on the territory of the ZNPP.
President Volodymyr Zelensky called on the world to respond to Russia’s nuclear blackmail with tough new sanctions – in particular, against Rosatom and the terrorist state’s entire nuclear industry. On Monday, August 15, he said in a video message in the evening.
Zelensky said that Russia does not stop its blackmail actions at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, continues shelling, and the Russians store ammunition and equipment in the plant’s own facilities, therefore “the plant is de facto mine.”
“Any incident of radiation at the Zaporozhye NPP can be a blow to EU countries, Turkey, Georgia, and countries from more distant regions. Everything depends only on the direction and strength of the wind.
If a disaster occurs due to Russia’s actions, the consequences may also hit those who are silent at the moment, this issue has already been brought to the highest international level – the UN and the IAEA.
Of course, Russian nuclear blackmail is also discussed between states. There is a corresponding statement by the G7 foreign ministers – they clearly understand that Russia is responsible for this nuclear crisis,” Zelensky said.
He stressed that the only way to avoid disasters is to return the station to Ukrainian control.
“All Russian forces must immediately withdraw from the territory of the plant and nearby areas without any conditions …. And if today the world does not have the strength and determination to protect a nuclear power plant, it means this is what the world is losing. Defeated by terrorists…. There is still a chance not to allow this loss,” the president said.
It will be remembered that the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant has been shelled since last week. The IAEA requests that its experts be allowed into the ZNPP. The US called for the demilitarization of the zone around the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, but Russia refused.
Experts say the consequences of what is happening could be catastrophic. More about this in the material It will be worse than Chernobyl: what is happening at ZNPP.
