Candidates supported by the former US President Donald Trump (2017 – 2021) were entered on Tuesday in several primary election contests Republican Partyin a new example of the influence that the former president maintains.

AT WisconsinOne of the key states that could fall to both the Democrats and the Republicans, Trump’s gubernatorial nominee Tim Michels defeated Republican candidate’s favorite Rebecca Clifish, according to mainstream media forecasts.

Thus, Michels, a businessman from the construction sector, will face the state’s Democratic governor, Tony Evers, in the November election.

For its part, in Connecticutmoderate Themis Clarides, backed by prominent figures in her party and former Vice President Mike Pence as the conservative candidate for the Senate, lost to Cuban-born Trump’s favorite, Leora Levy.

Trump’s opponent

In addition, the other primaries held last week in the state are being reviewed on Tuesday. Washington (Northwest), in which anti-Trump Republican Jaime Herrera Beutler narrowly lost to Trump’s challenger Joe Kent.

Herrera Beutler, who is currently seated at Republican Party but who can no longer be in office again, was one of 10 Republican congressmen who voted to impeach the former president after the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021 by thousands of his supporters.

Donald Trump, who never forgave her for the significance of this vote, rejoiced at the announcement of her defeat and accused her of succumbing to the game of Democratic Party.

Of the 10 Republican representatives who voted against Trump in 2021, only two will seek re-election, except for what will happen to Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney, who, according to polls, is following a Trump-backed opponent into the primaries, which take place next week. (EFE)
