The EU sanctions regime against Russia does not affect equipment and technology related to industrial gas transportation in the European Union, Brussels recalled.
There are no obstacles to the return of the Siemens turbine to Russia and installation in the Nord Stream-1 gas pipeline. This is what the official representative of the European Commission Arianna Podesta said, Interfax-Ukraine reports on Friday, August 5.

“And Nord Stream 1 is not subject to sanctions. From our point of view, there is nothing in this package of (economic) sanctions that can prevent the “return” of this turbine,” he said at a briefing in Brussels .
According to him, the regime of EU sanctions against the Russian Federation does not affect equipment and technology related to industrial gas transportation in the European Union.
It was noted that nothing in the sanctions would prevent this Siemens turbine, which was supposed to be installed in Russia, from being installed there.
“Everything else that has been said on this topic is simply false. We have said this very clearly. And what the Russians are saying about this is really just an excuse not to supply gas to the European Union,” the leader continued of the group. EC official representatives Eric Mamer.
He added that this was repeatedly said by the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen and other EC members.
“This is just a pretense,” the spokesman repeated, calling the actions of the Russian side blackmail in the field of energy supplies to EU countries.
Earlier this week, Gazprom requested guarantees from Western countries that the turbines for NSP-1 are not subject to export restrictions and sanctions. Meanwhile, Russia refused to use the Siemens turbine, which was repaired in Canada.
Meanwhile, gas supplies through Nord Stream 1 have dropped to 20% of capacity – 33 million cubic meters per day. And Gazprom heats the atmosphere by burning millions of cubic meters of gas.
