Washington has condemned Beijing’s military actions in the Taiwan Strait, but has kept all lines of communication open.
The White House on Thursday, August 4, summoned the Chinese ambassador to condemn Beijing’s escalating actions against Taiwan. It was reported by The Washington Post.
“Following China’s actions overnight, we summoned Ambassador Qin Gang to the White House to protest China’s provocative actions,” said John Kirby, US national security spokesman.
According to him, Washington “condemns China’s military actions, which are irresponsible and contrary to the maintenance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.”
“We have made it clear again, as we have done privately at the highest level and in public: nothing has changed in our one-China policy. We have also made it clear that the United States is ready for whatever decision Beijing makes,” Kirby emphasized .
In addition, the White House drew the attention of the Chinese ambassador to a G7 statement emphasizing that China should not use the visit of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as a pretext for aggressive military action around Taiwan.
It can be recalled that the Chinese army began military exercises around Taiwan in response to Pelosi’s arrival on the island, which China considers its territory.
Beijing’s show of force has included launching rockets and threatening the island’s territorial waters.
