China This Thursday, live-fire maneuvers began around Taiwan(which is about 160 kilometers from the southwestern tip of the Japanese archipelago), in response to a visit the day before by the speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi.
Nine missiles detected
Japan Nine Chinese ballistic missile launches detected between 15:00 and 16:00 local time (06:00-07:00 GMT), five of which took place in its EEZ, according to Japan’s Defense Minister, nobuo kishiin media statements.
“This is a very serious incident that affects the security of our territory and our people,” said Kishi, who also said that this is the first time that ballistic missiles from chinese army impact on the water area of the special economic zone.
Government Japan submitted a diplomatic protest to the leadership of the PRC in connection with the launches carried out as part of the exercises of the Chinese army in the strait Taiwan and this has led to the closure of sea and air space in six areas around the island that Beijing considers part of its territory.
Missiles ended up in the waters near the island of Hateruma, part of the archipelago Okinawain the extreme southwest of Japan.
The incident has led to rising tensions between neighboring countries after Tokyo condemned the intensification of Chinese navy warfare around the Senkaku Islands, which are under Japanese administration but claimed by Beijing (which is called Diaoyu), and in other areas of the archipelago.
