The previous day, Gazprom announced that they would not take the turbine from Germany because of the sanctions. Today, the company says that the turbines for the Portovaya compressor station must be overhauled at the factory once every three years. An engine overhaul contract in Canada was signed with the British company Industrial Turbine Company (UK) Limited, part of the Siemens Energy group of companies.
Gazprom said that under the terms of the contract, the gas turbine had to be sent immediately to Russia, and not to Germany.
“The Canadian authorities issued documents for the export of the engine to Siemens Energy Canada Limited, which is not a party to the contract. If the engine is brought to Russia, there is a risk that the Canadian authorities may consider it as a violation. or evasion of the conditions of the issued permit. This may lead to the revocation of the permit and the impossibility of repair in Canada of other engines of the Portovaya compressor station,” Gazprom said in a statement.
In addition, such a transaction may violate the sanction Regulation EU 833/2014. And since a British company is a party to the contract, the requirements of UK law, including restrictions on penalties, apply to it.
“In the absence of official clarification from the EU and the UK on the application of sanctions, it is not clear that the repair and transportation of gas turbine engines for the Portovaya compressor station is not subject to export restrictions.. . delivery of engine No. . 073 to the Portovaya compressor station is impossible,” said Gazprom.
It will be recalled that on August 3, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz personally inspected the turbine for the SP-1. He assured that the unit is ready for use, and all that is needed is a request from Russia.
As you know, Gazprom reduced gas supplies through Nord Stream 1 to 20% of capacity – 33 million cubic meters per day. At the same time, the gas pipeline is capable of transporting up to 167 million cubic meters. m of gas.
