In the last ten days of July, the average daily water flow in the Dniester reservoir decreased by more than three times compared to the average values for many years.
The Dniester hydroelectric power plant reduced electricity production, in July it was 43% less than in the past. The reason is the critically low water level in the Dniester reservoir, Ukrhydroenergo said in a statement.
“For the 28 days of July of this year, the flow in the Dniester reservoir was 64 m3 / s, which is only 19% of the monthly standard and 99% of the security. And this is the lowest average value of water flow in July for the entire period of operation of the Dniester reservoir, starting from 1985”, – the message says with reference to the assessment of the Ukrhydrometeorological center.
Ukrhydroenergo also reports that in the last decade of July, the average daily water flow in the Dniester reservoir decreased more than three times compared to the average values for many years. The low water content led to the fact that in July the electricity generation at the Dniester HPP decreased by 43% compared to the same period last year.
“Due to the natural phenomena of drought and low water, the company’s trading strategy has been adjusted, because the most important thing is to ensure the sanitary release and save water resources,” commented Bohdan Sukhetsky, Deputy General Director for Commercial Activities.
Also, according to the Ukrhydrometeorological center, taking into account the long-term weather forecast, one can expect to continue to maintain a low flow with a downward trend, which will lead to a decrease in power generation at the Dniester HPP.
Recall that at the end of last year, Ukrhydroenergo put into commercial operation the fourth hydroelectric unit of the Dniester PSP with a capacity of 324 MW.
The first hydro unit of the Dniester PSP was launched in 2009. The next two units were launched by the fifth president Petro Poroshenko in 2014.
