Those who made the revolution in 1917 “cheated the people” in their promises of independence, emphasizing the leader of Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan president Ilham Aliyev said the country was under “work” as part of the Soviet Union. He said this in an interview with Al Arabiya.
“When the Russian Empire collapsed in 1917, the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was announced in Azerbaijan. It was the first democratic republic in the Muslim world, established in May 1918. It lasted until April 1920, when the Russian army attacked Azerbaijan and conquered it,” Aliyev said.
According to him, those who made the Revolution of 1917 “cheated the people” with the promises of freedom.
“We created our own state, but the Bolsheviks removed it from us,” the President recalled.
Aliyev also said this was due to the actions of the USSR that Azerbaijan lost part of the territory: “Nakhichevani region became an enclave due to the fact that the Soviet Union chose West Zangesur from Azerbaijan and gave it to Armenia in 1920.”
Separately, he talked about relationships with Russia after the Azerbaijani Airlines’ aircraft disaster, which was shot in the Grozny in December 2024.
“Moscow’s incident and reaction itself brings great frustration and disappointment. In Baku, they count the punishment of accomplishments and compensation to the victims. We haven’t seen anything like this from Russia … It has been a big surprise. And they still haven’t said what happened,” Aliyev emphasized.
He also noted the persecution of the Azerbaijani Diaspora in Russia, which began in late June after an attack on Yekaterinburg. After more than ten people were detained, two brothers Ziyaddin and Huseyn Safarov died as a result of torture.
“This is an uninterrupted act against our people. We are responsible for the destruction of relationships. We are responsible and legal, but we will never tolerate any signs or showing aggression or disrespect to us,” the head of the state completed.
Remember that after signing a peace agreement with Armenia, Aliyev said authorities are monitoring the resources of new threats and increasing military power for safety. The application was made against the backdrop of an exacerbation of Baku relations with Moscow and the threats of Russian propagandists to begin the so -called “switch” in the South Caucasus.
Earlier, the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev condemned the Russian attack on the Azerbaijani Energy Infrastructure in Ukraine.
