Ukraine confirms dispatch of first grain carrier: ‘It’s a relief for the world’

The Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine announced on Monday the departure of the first vessel with a cargo of 26,000 tons. flakes from the Odessa commercial port on the Black Sea, according to the Ukrainian portal Ukrinform.

According to this media outlet, citing ministerial sources, the Razoni cargo ship is flying the flag of Sierra Leone and is heading to the port of Tripoli in Lebanon with tons of corn in Ukrainian.

Earlier, a Turkish government spokesman announced the expected departure of the first batch this morning following an agreement reached at the end of July between Russia D Ukraineseparately to enable unlocking Ukrainian grain.

Turkey acts as the verifier of this agreement, in which this country acted as a guarantor together with the United Nations, and also manages the control center established to monitor the operations.

The purpose of the agreement is to allow export again Ukrainian porridges and alleviate the global food crisis, exacerbated by the start of the war for Ukrainein February last year.

The start of operations was hampered by several attacks on the port of Odessa, one of three from which these transports were supposed to leave, against the backdrop of accusations by Kyiv and the international community against Russia to break the deal.

This was followed by several demining operations in the waters of these ports and further delays under the control of Turkey and a group of experts from other Western countries.

“Relief for the World”

Government Ukraine described as “a relief for the world” the release of Ukrainian grain, which was reflected this morning in the departure of the first ship from the Odessa commercial port.

“This is a relief, especially for our friends from the Middle East, Asia and Africa,” Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba wrote on his Twitter account. “Ukraine has always been a reliable partner and will remain so as long as Russia respects its part of the agreement,” the statement said.
