The European Union has expressed optimism about potential investments in the development of the Ukrainian defense industry. The European Commissioner for Defense Andryus Cubilyus said European countries are actively considering the possibility of using a new mechanism of loans designed for 150 billion euros to supply Ukraine’s defense. According to the European Commissioner, the future data in the number of EU member states will be announced, which has submitted requests for funds from the specified fund. He also noted that the interest in this mechanism was very good, and it was hoped that in November would determine which part of these loans aimed at supporting Ukraine.
Cubilyus noted that some countries have expressed their intent to use loans specifically for Ukraine. However, there are no exact numbers for such requests.
According to the publication, earlier officials called European countries to actively invest in the Ukrainian defense industry and expressed concern over insufficient applications for loans for the acquisition of Ukrainian military technologies. Now he mentioned a remarkable improvement in the situation.
“Now I’m more optimistic,” Cubilyus emphasized.
At the same time, Cubilyus avoided comments about prospects for funding American weapons for $ 90 billion, previously mentioned by the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky after meetings in Washington. According to him, the EU is now showing more agreed and integrated actions in collaboration with partners from the United States.
Cubilyus also emphasized both interests between the defense industries in Ukrainian and Europe.
“The Ukraine defense industry is outstanding by its accomplishments. And I think many European countries, business industries are of great interest to boost their integration,” Kutilyus said.
Earlier it was reported that the committee of permanent EU representatives at the ambassador level has approved the mandate for negotiations with the European Parliament for the European Defense Industry Program (EDIP). It provides for a total of € 1.5 billion in the form of grants until the end of 2027, where € 300 million will be sent to support Ukraine’s defense defense.
