The European Union called on Russia to immediately and unconditionally withdraw all its troops across Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.
The Council of the European Union extended for another six months the sanctions imposed against Russia in connection with the war in Ukraine. This was reported on the council’s website on Tuesday, July 26.
“The EU Council today decided to extend for six months, until January 31, 2023, the restrictive measures applied against certain sectors of the Russian economy,” the statement said.
It is emphasized that these sanctions, first introduced in 2014 in response to Russia’s destabilizing actions in Ukraine, have been significantly expanded since February 2022 “in light of Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified military aggression against Ukraine .”
“Currently, they (sanctions – ed.) consist of a wide range of sectoral measures, including restrictions on finance, energy, technology and dual-use goods, industry, transport and luxury goods,” added the EU Council.
The European Union also called on Russia to immediately and unconditionally withdraw all its troops from across Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.
It will be recalled that on July 21, the EU officially announced the seventh package of sanctions against the Russian Federation. Later it became known that the sanctions list was expanded by 55 positions.
