The number of men who have become reparations due to sexual violence is nearly twice in many women.
In Ukraine, 1119 appeal about sexual violence in military conflict conditions was recorded. At the same time, the two -thirds of these statements were submitted by men. On Wednesday, June 18, reported by gender policy, the head of the Interdepartmental Work Group to prevent sexual violence related to Russia’s armed invasion against Ukraine, reports Ekaterina Levchenko, UKRinform report.
“As part of the intermediate reparations project for Monday, we received 1119 appeals: 750 – from men, 342 – from women, 20 – from girls and 7 from boys. In particular, in the last week we received 59 appeals: 41 – from men and 17 from women,” said.
Levchenko noted that so far, the payment of reparations 616 to the victims has been agreed, of which 365 men, 279 women, two boys and ten girls.
The official emphasized that the numbers provided were many times higher than the UN monitoring mission data and the prosecutor’s office office on sexual violence. In his opinion, it implies a high latency of sexual crimes.
Payments are being held as part of the implementation of a pilot project to provide urgent intermediate reparations to victims of sexual violence associated with the Russian Federation’s armed invasion against Ukraine. The pilot project was implemented by the Global Survivors Fund in implementing a plot agreement with Ukraine, which was completed on December 21, 2023.
The project began on May 20, 2024. The payment amount was three thousand euros.
Remember that in November last year, Levchenko reported 535 applications for project participation. Most of the appeals come from the regions of Kherson, Donetsk and Kyiv.
A month before, it was reported that 55 Russian militals reported on the suspicion of sexual violence, perfect in Ukraine.
