A competition for the post by the Bureau of Economic Security director was suspended after Ukraine’s security service sent a letter to the commission with warnings related to three candidates. The document refers to their possible connection to Russia. Government representative Yuri Ponomarenko mentioned it at a Competitive Commission meeting, report Interfax-Ukraine On Sunday, June 8.
According to him, the letter was dated on May 24, but the Commission received it only on June 5.
“The SBU leader said the appropriate check of candidates requires more time. I am perfectly understanding that in our situation any delays, moving the competition will have negative consequences. Be openly, it will have both socio-political and reputation that negative consequences, as well as others.
Commission members from Ukraine have suggested to suspend the competition to provide excess SBU time for verification.
At the same time, commission chairman Laura Stefan recalled that on April 22, the SBU had already sent a request to prove the candidates, and on April 27 they received an answer – then there were no warnings.
During the vote, three international members promoted the continuation of the competition, while three representatives from Ukraine – for its stop. Due to the basic right of the vote of international experts, the competition will formally continue, but the final decision will be made after one day, as provided by law.
Interviews with the candidates planned on Sunday were canceled. From Monday, the competition must continue.
While the representative of the people Yaroslav Zheleznyak believes BB will not be anything on Monday.
“It is clear that Ukrainian delegates to the government commission will deliberately tear the quorum and that is all. Therefore, they have come for a long time with a locked competition,” he emphasized.
