“The main fire fronts so far are in the Dadia National Park in the Evros region, in the Vatera beach area on Lesbos, in the town of Akritochori in the Messinia region on the Peloponnese peninsula and in the Grevena region in the north of the country,” said ministry.
As indicated, the fire in the national park has been extinguished for more than two days. 320 firefighters in 68 vehicles, as well as 13 foot groups, forest service employees with equipment, military and volunteer firefighters are fighting the fire. Before dark, six planes and nine helicopters participated in the fight against the elements.
Fighting a strong natural fire in Lesvos continues for almost a day. Authorities have evacuated residents and tourists in the resort settlement of Vatera, where the fire has reached.
