Russia’s intolerance to officially convey the memorandum for negotiations indicates the presence of unrealistic requirements in it and an attempt to tighten the peace process, according to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.
Russia invited Ukraine to hold the second -round of peace negotiations in Istanbul on June 2, but did not call its conditions for the establishment of a Truce. The Kremlin said they would only do this at the meeting of two parties delegations. The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky believes Russia is simply cheating and doing everything to “the meetings are empty.”
Are the conditions not true?
“Words with Moscow don’t work. Even though the so many” memorandum “they promised and seemed to have prepared for more than a week, no one had seen. No one had not been given to Ukraine. Zelensky.
“Why wait for Monday? If the Russians finally developed their” memorandum “-After ten days of thinking and blowing in Ukraine-it could immediately move to us. We hope that Russia’s side will not break the next meeting and immediately submit its proposals for our consideration, because it has previously agreed. Foreign work of Ukraine Andrei Samiba.
“The fear of the Russians before the transfer of their” memorandum “to Ukraine suggests that it may have been filled with unrealistic ultimatums, and they are afraid that they have really delayed the peace process,” said the Ukraine Georgy Tikhiy’s foreign ministry representative.
Kremlin replied
The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov was called Kyiv’s requirements for the immediate transfer of unknown memorandum.
“Russia just offered to meet in Istanbul on Monday and start a discussion about these projects. Therefore, it is not up to be requested immediately,” Peskov said. “Here you can confirm the willingness to proceed with negotiations or do the opposite.”
Answering journalists’ question of how Russia would do, if negotiations were broken on June 2, Peskov said: “I think now is an inappropriate question. I have to wait for the Ukrainian side and then navigate.”
Moscow considers meeting delegations held in Istanbul on May 16 a continuation of negotiations interrupted in the spring of 2022.
Shortly after Lavrov suggested that he was holding a new spur of negotiations in Istanbul, he held a phone conversation with the head of the US State Department Marco Rubio.
According to the press secretary of the State Department Tammy Bruce, Rubio again called Lavrov to a constructive conversation with Kiev.
Warning from turkey
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said Russia’s reluctance to show flexibility in peace negotiations at the end of the war against Ukraine could put it into a loss to the eyes of the United States and international community.
Turkey’s foreign minister said the role of the United States in the process of ending the war was key. He recalled that US president Donald Trump from the beginning announced the desire to immediately end the fire, and since then the American position has had a significant impact on the negotiation process.
“So far, Ukraine and Europe’s side have shown flexibility in adaptation to America’s position and immediately accepted it. Now that Russia has not reflected the same thing, Russia can be really in the American eyes and the international community that a stop wants,” Fidan said.
