During the full Russian invasion – from February 24, 2022 – the war brought the life of 204 artists and 108 Ukrainian and foreign intermediaries.
The press service of the Ministry of Culture announced this today, May 29.
These data relate not only to the scale of losses, but also resemble the tragic pages of our history. As in the 1920s in the early 1930s, the Stalinist regime destroyed the generation of Ukrainian artists, so today Russia purposefully destroyed the cultural elite of Ukraine, ”the ministry crashed.
The Ministry of Culture claims that such losses can be compared with the “performed revival” (generation of the Ukrainian intellectual and art elite, which was depressed and physical destruction of the Stalinist regime in the 20-30th century):
These artists were the pride of our nation. Today we again lose not only talented Ukrainians, but also part of our soul, because every artist is a unique person enriched with Ukrainian culture.
The Ministry of Culture also recalled that journalists who currently work in Ukraine create important news, investigations and high -risk reports:
They record war events to provide Ukraine and the world with reliable information about what is happening. 24/7 media gather not related to the case of the evidence of the crimes of the invaders and emphasize the strength, feat and courage of our defenders.
Systematic crimes against journalists and the media committed by Russia pose a serious threat to freedom of speech and information security, undermine the democratic values and human rights added to the Ministry of Culture.
