The European Commission’s decision “is influenced by the security situation in Ukraine, which, unfortunately, does not improve.”
The European Union plans to expand temporary protection for Ukrainians until March 2027. It will be discussed at an EU Council on Justice and Internal Affairs meeting, held at Luxembourg on June 12-13, reports European Pravda with the Ukraine ambassador to EU Vsevolod Centsov.
“We hope that the EU Council will continue temporary protection for the Ukrainians and continue from the fact that this continuation is until March 2027,” he said.
The ambassador also noted that such an EU decision was due to the security situation in Ukraine, which “unfortunately did not improve.”
“And in the European Union, a discussion continues in parallel with what to do when this temporary defense ends, because most people under protection are women and children, that is, weak groups,” he explained.
In addition, Centsov said that next week Ukraine’s Prime Minister Alexei Chernyshev will visit Brussels for negotiations with the European Commissioner for Migration Magnus Brunner and other European officials. The Ukrainian side will raise the question of how the European Commission and the member states will contribute to the return of citizens to express their desire to return, subject to a desirable security situation.
Remember that most Ukrainians who now live in Poland do not plan to stay there forever. Those who want to stay in a neighboring country for a long time – only 14%.
The number of Ukrainians with EU protection is reduced
