Lithuania filed a lawsuit against Belarus at the UN International Court in Hague. The Lithuanian Foreign Ministry said bilateral negotiations did not produce results, so the country has conducted international justice. Lithuania requires full compensation for injury, including border construction, and guarantees that violations are not repeated.
According to the border service, 23.6 thousand illegal immigrants have not been allowed in Lithuania since the beginning of the crisis.
Justice Minister Rimantas Maskus called the lawsuit in the history and evidence of the Lithuanian leadership in protecting the interests of not only his country, but the EU as well. According to him, not a single state has the right to use people as an instrument of political blackmail without consequences.
