The experience of circular deliveries was not as expected, says Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann. Earlier, the Bundestag called on the Chancellor to convene a National Conference on Ukraine.

Germany should abandon the so-called circular delivery of heavy weapons to Ukraine and start directly supplying such weapons, said the head of the Bundestag Defense Committee, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmerman.

“We have to find the courage to admit that it (circular supply – Ed.) is not working as we thought, and accordingly we must switch to direct supply instead,” said Strack-Zimmerman in an interview published in the newspaper Rheinische. on Friday, July 22.

Before this, the Bundestag Defense Committee called on German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to meet as soon as possible National conference in Ukraineto agree on further actions to help Ukraine. Representatives of the government, armed forces, industry and trade unions should participate in it.

The Bundestag supported the supply of heavy weapons to Kyiv

At the end of April, the Bundestag overwhelmingly supported the supply of heavy weapons to Ukraine. The decision of the representatives, adopted by 586 votes, called on the German government to “continue and, if possible, accelerate the supply of equipment to Ukraine that it needs, while expanding the transfer of heavy and complex weapons systems , for example, within the framework of circular delivery.” To do this, Germany promised to pay for the supply of Soviet-made heavy equipment from the stocks of Eastern European countries, where the Ukrainian military is known.

At the end of June, the German government published a list of weapons delivered directly to Ukraine. It follows from this that since the end of March, Germany has transferred to Kyiv mainly mines, fuses and hand grenades. In June, Ukraine also received seven anti-tank howitzers from Germany, originally promised to be delivered in early May.
