Part of the mines near the ports in southern Ukraine will be removed as part of the grain export agreements, the newspaper reported.
Ukraine agreed to remove some of its mines in the Black Sea and send grain cargo ships into international waters with its own people at the head of the crew. The said agreement was reported on Thursday, July 21, by The New York Times, citing government sources.
“Until now, one of the main obstacles to an agreement is the mines that Ukraine has placed in its ports on the Black Sea coast to block Russian warships. The United Nations and Turkey, which will solve this problem, ” said the article.
According to three senior government officials cited by the publication, the UN Secretary General said that “the Ukrainians have agreed to remove only some mines and send cargo ships into international waters with the captains of their navy or coast guard.”
Then, as indicated, the foreign crew will escort the ships to Istanbul, where they will be sent to their final destinations.
The newspaper reminds that Turkey will provide inspection of ships bound for Ukrainian ports.
Earlier it became known that on July 22, four party talks will be held in Istanbul – Ukraine, Russia, Turkey, the UN – on the export of Ukrainian grain. The final agreement is expected to be signed.
At the same time, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said that Kyiv will only support decisions that guarantee the security of the southern regions of Ukraine, the strong position of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Black Sea and the safe export of products agricultural of Ukraine in world markets.
