Verkhovna Rada voted for a bill that would allow sanctions in the Russian shadow fleet.
On Tuesday, May 13, Verkhovna Rada adopted the draft Law No. 13020 “Amendment to the Law of Ukraine” on sanctions on the application of sanctions on ships, aircraft ”as a basis. The decision was supported by 269 people. The parliamentary Yaroslav Zheleznyak reported this on Telegram.
The explanatory note to the law states that the current Ukrainian legislation allows you to impose sanctions on legal entities and private individuals, but does not allow authorities and aircraft. According to legislators, these changes will allow sanctions on specific vessels and aircraft that participate in the shadow transportation of Russian oil, oil products, weapons and the military.
It is known that bypassing the oil sanctions of the Russian Federation began to form the so -called shadow fleet, which is formed from the old tankers that turn off the beacons, so that they are not visible in the tracking system. These tankers operate mainly by the Russian state company SOVCOMFLOT.
The guardian calculated that the Russian shadow fleet currently has about 600 vessels that provide 70% of Russian oil exports and about 10% of the world. This allows the aggressor to send almost 1.7 million barrels of oil per day.
We recall that on May 9, the United Kingdom announced the largest package of sanctions in history aimed at the Russian shadow fleet. The restrictions are applied to 100 oil tankers, which make up most of the shadow fleet of the Russian Federation and from the beginning of 2024, more than $ 24 billion have been transported.
