“Roadmap” to leave Russian gas in the current form is unacceptable for the Slovak government, Roberto Fitzo insisted.
The prime minister of Slovakia Robert Fitzo opposed the European Commission’s new plan for stopping Russia’s energy resources, in particular gas. Dennіk n reported this on Wednesday, May 7.
According to him, the proposed roadmap is not acceptable for Bratislava. At the same time, he admitted that decisions could make a qualified majority, avoiding the position of Slovakia.
“I asked the European Commission: Measure five times before cutting it,” Fito said.
He also said that Slovakia would require accounting of national details, adding that Slovak diplomats have already received the appropriate instructions.
The Prime Minister also emphasized that he did not know what would be the consequences of destroying the current contract Gazpromoperating up to 2034. Despite the fact that he recognized the strategic goal of reducing EU energy hopes, Fitzu warned that losses from abandoning Russia’s gas could be more seriously struck by Europe than Russia.
It should be noted that the implementation of the initiative depends on the ability to find alternative suppliers, especially from USA, Qatar, Canada and African countries. Currently, negotiations with the United States in delivery are carried out within the framework of greater trade agreements.
It is expected that a gradual abandonment of Russian gas will have a limited impact on EU’s energy prices and energy security, which has been given the growth of the LNG world volume in the coming years. The final version of the plan may be changed before the official announcement in Strasbourg.
Remember that despite a significant reduction in gas supply from Russia after 2022, the EU last year increased the import of liquid gas from the Russian Federation – it covers 19% of the needs of the European Union.
Earlier it was reported that the European Union had decided until 2027 to completely abandon Russia’s gas. Starting this year, the delivery will start at a promising Black Sea Field in Romania, the operator of which has signed the first contract in Germany.
