A new study showed that excessive consumption of Ultra -taxed products (UOP) has caused more than 124 thousand premature deaths in the United States.
The use of stable food (UPF) led to more than 124 thousand premature deaths in the United States during 2017-2018. This has been proven by the results of a study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, UPI reports.
Scientists note that ultra -laid foods are food products that contain widely produced substances that cannot be prepared at home, in particular preservatives, emulsifiers, sweeteners, added fats, starch and hydrogenated oil. Such products include sweet drinks, chocolates, pizza, hamburgers, chicken coop, etc.
According to the study model, UPF’s high consumption also caused more than 25 thousand deaths in Brazil, 17 thousand in the UK, 17 thousand in Mexico, more than 7.7 thousand in Canada, 3.2 thousand in Australia, 2.8 thousand in Colombia and nearly 1.9 thousand in Chile.
Scientists emphasize that by 2018, Ultra -processes are more than half a diet in high -income countries, such as USA, Canada and UK. In countries with average income, in particular Brazil, Mexico and Chile, this figure reaches 20% to 30%.
“Our conclusions about the amount of death associated with improper nutrition in low and medium income countries show that malnutrition replaces traditionally fresh and minimally processed products. And this can lead to an increase in mortality from distracting diseases associated with unhealthy nutrition,” explained the leader of the study Nielson.
He also noted that the population of ultra -launched products has been possible thanks to global changes in food systems: these products have become more accessible and cheaper worldwide. Therefore, the solution to the problem requires more than knowing consumers – it is necessary to change the environment where people make a choice in favor of a healthy diet.
