Ukraine is moving along the way to the EU with sustainable development, in particular, showing the maximum screening speed in expansion history.
The process of screening Ukrainian law for compliance with EU standards in the framework of Ukraine entry negotiations occurs at an unprecedented speed. This was announced by European Commission’s representative Guillaume Mersier during a briefing in Brussels on April 22, answering the journalist’s question of reality in Europe.
Mercier recalled that negotiations in Ukraine with EU membership officials officially began in June 2024. According to him, the European Commission considers expanding as one of the top priorities, and Ukraine shows a stable development.
“Expansion remains one of the priorities of this commission … Ukraine shows a steady development of the EU membership path. We are currently in the process of bilateral screening for various thematic EU law,” the representative said.
He emphasized that the screening for Ukraine was carried out according to an accelerated procedure.
“In the case of Ukraine, we use an accelerated procedure – screening occurs at an unprecedented speed. This has become possible thanks to the close cooperation of experts at the European Commission with Ukraine partners to ensure the most effective passage of this stage.”
The check process will last at least until the fall.
Mercier also confirmed that Ukraine has fulfilled all the requirements to open the first cluster of negotiations – Foundations (Basis). At the same time, to begin this stage, the consent of all 27 EU member states is required.
Keep in mind that the President of Lithuania Gitanas is suggested to be identified on January 1, 2030 as the date of Ukraine’s entry into the European Union.
Note that the EU procedure refers to 35 sections of negotiations. According to them, the European Commission first holds an official screening of compliance with Ukraine law in EU law. 33 out of 35 sections of negotiations are combined with six thematic clusters, while sections 34 institutions and 35 other issues will be considered separately, out of clusters.
As you know, Vladimir Zelensky hopes to accept Ukraine in the European Union during the work of the new European Commission composition.
