The Lithuanian district’s District Court penalized the 83 -Year -old Eduardas Manov, with Lithuania and Russia’s citizenship, by eight and a half years in prison for spy in favor of Russia’s gru -military intelligence. The LRT reported this on Thursday, April 10.
The man asked for a slight sin. He confirmed that he had sent information, but declined that he had done so for special Russian services, and claimed that the data had no secret vulture.
Manov’s defense has requested his reasons, determining the lack of evidence of transmission of sensitive information to the hostile structures. However, prosecutor Redas Savitskas said the evidence was sufficient, and was asked to appoint a nine penalty.
Manov was jailed in January 2024, but information about the operation was kept secret until the end of the year. This case has caused a public shout, as Manov for a long time has been a member of the conservative party “Union of the Fatherland – Christian Democrats of Lithuania” (TS -LKD) and part of the local branch council of the Union of Political Prisoners and deported.
According to the investigation, Manov sent GRU information about the internal political and economic situation in Lithuania, the activities of the parties, the country’s defense capabilities, the military purchase, the NATO consultation and the support of Ukraine. Investigators found that partnership with GRU began at least 2018. Manov acted carefully, but during searches, evidence was obtained from him confirming the connection to Russia’s intelligence. There is also evidence that he has received financial rewards for his activities.
After the restraint, Manov asked him to release him from caution, which refers to a deterioration in his health and almost complete loss of vision. However, the court rejected the petition, afraid of his escape.
He was recognized by Lithuanian intelligence as a participant in “illegal” agents operating abroad under a deep cover.
