HMS Vanguard has been under repair for seven years. The Royal Navy has four submarines of this type.
British strategic nuclear submarine HMS Vanguard is back in the fleet after completing seven years of repairs and refueling. This was reported on July 19 by the Interfax-Ukraine agency in connection with the Royal Navy.
It was noticed that the submarine carrying the Trident II D5 intercontinental ballistic missiles was sent to Devonport naval base.
The British Royal Navy has four Vanguard-class submarines, each of which can be armed with 16 Trident II D5 missiles, but in practice, the submarines carry only eight missiles on patrol, each with five W76 that are individually targetable nuclear warheads.
One of the submarines is constantly on alert at sea.
In about ten years, all four strategic submarines are planned to be replaced by the new Dreadnought class. The program for their creation is estimated at $ 43 billion.
Recall that at the end of March, France increased the readiness of nuclear forces in response to the Russian threat. Three French nuclear missile submarines were simultaneously deployed at sea for the first time in 30 years.
