The promotion of the Russian army in Ukraine is difficult.
The pace of promotion of the occupation forces at the front has been reduced monthly since November 2024. This happens, in particular, from the successful local counterattack of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This is indicated in the new report of the American Institute of War (ISW), which refers to British intelligence data.
According to the British Ministry of Defense, the army of the Russian Federation in March last month has advanced in Ukraine for 143 square meters. km.
ISW and the British believe that Russian troops occupied:
- Approximately 730 square meters. km/627 square meters. km in November 2024;
- 393 square meters. KM/569 square meters. km in December 2024;
- 326 square meters. km/427 square meters. km in January 2025;
- and 195 square meters. km/203 square meters. Km in February.
The experts of the institute write that the forces of Ukraine conducted localized counterattacks in the directions of Zovsky and Toretsky, restoring the lost positions in these areas and contributing to the slowdown of the genera of the invaders.
Recall that experts in deep states reported that in March the Russians captured 133 square meters. km of Ukrainian territory. This figure is comparable to April and June 2024. However, the effectiveness of the fall of the Russian army – in comparison with the loss of November, the monthly losses of territories fell almost six times.
