Against the background of announcements of new responsibilities for the import of goods from around the world, the Trump administration, several countries, including Israel, India and Vietnam, have already begun active negotiations with the White House.
CNN recalls that the duties were caused by a wave of criticism: the markets are falling, corporate America is unhappy, China announced this action.
Senior Advisor to the US President told CNN that some countries want to conclude special agreements before tariffs entered into force.
Despite the statement about the “constant restart of trading”, Trump, according to advisers, remains open for negotiations.
These negotiations can become litmus paper for understanding: whether the tariffs are only an element of pressure or a new long -term strategy of Washington.
The perspective said that the 500 richest people in the world suffered the largest two-day losses ever registered in Bloomberg due to the declared Trump tariffs: $ 485 billion was lost. April 3 and 4.
Reaction in the USA
54% of the US voters oppose Trump’s duties – this is 12% more than those who support his plans. This is discussed in the Wall Street Journal.
The survey was conducted from March 27 to April 1, when Trump imposed new duties against China and some goods from Canada, Mexico and other countries, but before he announced a large program for collecting on Wednesday from almost all US trading partners.
This statement shocked America’s trading partners, and on Thursday in 2020 the largest sale of American actions was reached from the first days of Covid Pandemia. Sale increased on Friday.
The study shows that three quarters of voters believe that the responsibilities will lead to an increase in prices for goods that they buy compared to 68%, which is said in January.
The survey shows that the president, who promised that “the tariffs will make America again rich,” faced his dissatisfaction with his economic leadership, especially due to rising prices – a question that suffered from the Democrats in last year’s elections.
15% more voters have a negative assessment of Trump’s struggle with inflation than positively. In a negative assessment of its economic management, a positive result prevails by 8%.
This is a significant change in comparison with the end of October, when voters with a difference of 10% stated that they support, and not against Trump’s economic plans.
A negative attitude towards tariffs contrasts with preliminary polls of the magazine, which showed that voters retain impartiality. In January and August, before Trump joined this position, and his customs program became concrete, the survey showed that voters moderately supported the import meeting as a general proposal.
At the same time, the survey showed that the political position of the US president among his electorate is stable. About 93% of voters who voted for him in November now positively evaluate his work, which indicates that few people regret their voice.
Most approve of his work in the field of immigration and border security.
Among all voters, 46% approve of the president’s total work, and 51% do not approve – a slight deterioration compared to January, when thoughts about the work of Trump as a recently elected president were approximately divided.
About 41% of voters believe that the country is on the right track, and does not move in the wrong direction. At the same time, 52% believe that the economy is deteriorating, and not the best – this is a significant increase compared to 37%, which believed that the economy has weakened in January.
Both shifts are connected with the fact that voters are considering events through the party prism: Republicans see improvements after Trump’s victory, and democrats – deterioration. This indicates a growing shutdown and polarization of American society.
