Brussels said they will try to avoid a trade war and find solutions through negotiations.
The duties introduced by US President Donald Trump is a “big economic mistake”. European council chairman Antoniu Koshta, reports Euronews.
“This is a major economic mistake for the United States, as well as for Europe and around the world. We must answer decisively, but at the same time justified. This means that we must reach an agreement on negotiations,” he said.
He noted that the trade war between the European Union and the United States would “hold everything.”
“The duties are taxes. Taxes that American buyers will pay for American companies. It will not be good for Americans, but it will also be bad for the people,” said the Eurorada president.
According to him, joining the war of tariff is not the best way.
“We must actually retaliate in a way of finding a solution through negotiations with the common and coherent interests of the United States and Europe – the American economy and the European economy,” he assured.
Coshta also expressed confidence in the European Commission’s ability to maintain a trading storm and continue discussions in Washington until a compromise, even though negotiations have been completely unsuccessful.
“Our trade relationships make up 30% of the world’s trade (40% of the World GDP, so it will not only affect Europe and the USA, it will affect everyone, so this is a big mistake,” he said.
At the same time, the President of Eurorada has expressed hope that the United States will understand the measure of this mistake and avoid the trade war.
Remember that on Wednesday Trump announced the introduction of major duties to imported goods. He called it America’s “Day of Liberation”.
Earlier it was reported that the European Union was preparing to support economic sectors, which would suffer more from American duties.
