Hungary and Serbia on April 1 signed an agreement on strategic cooperation with the defense sector. The document was signed in Belgrade by defense ministers of both countries: Serbia – Bratislav Hashich and Hungary – Christophe Salai Bobrovniki. This is aware of Euronews on Tuesday, April 1.
After signing the agreement, the Hungary Defense Minister noted that in the context of global changes in the international environment, it is important that two neighboring countries regularly consult a high level. This will contribute to ensuring stability in the region.
He added that Hungary and Serbia have nearest bilateral defense ties in countries that are not EU or NATO members. Hungary is actively helping to modernize Serbia’s armed forces.
The signed agreement expands the strategic partnership that ended in 2023 between the states, including active cooperation in the defense sector. In addition, it was planned to conduct 79 joint programs, including flotilla training, international training for reservists and shooting training in 2025.
Serbia President Alexander Vuchich, who was present at the signing ceremony, confirmed the importance of the agreement for further implementation of defense cooperation between countries.
Both governments, known for their gentle position for Russian President Vladimir Putin, have confirmed the willingness to strengthen their military communications.
Reminding, the previous Vuchich said Serbia was mistaken in supporting the UN General Assembly resolution, confirming the support of Ukraine and its territorial integrity.
He later said that Serbia was interested in holding a meeting of Russian and US leaders Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.
