The Austrian Supreme Court on Tuesday decided to judge former financial minister Karl-Khinets Grasser for four years in prison, who rejected his appeal for a sentence in 2020. The Reuters reported it on Tuesday, March 25.
The court has confirmed the charges of corruption, but has reduced the initial imprisonment from eight to four years.
Grasser, who held the financial minister’s post in 2000-2007, was found guilty of fraud, receiving illegal gifts and lies of evidence. The corruption scandal exploded around the privatization of thousands of state houses.
Despite the denial of all charges, the court recognized him involved in fraud. This is the first case in Austria’s history, when the minister was judged for corruption.
