Freedom from Russia’s gas is strategically important, and Nord Stream 2 is not certified and unable to commission, the Ministry of Economy of the Federal Republic of Germany said.
Germany does not consider the possibility of restoring Nord Stream gas pipelines, which previously supplied Russian gas to Europe. It is said by the Minister of Economics and Energy of Germany Robert Habek, which emphasizes that it will be a “completely wrong direction”, reported by Reuters on Monday, March 17.
“The Ukrainians are still invading from Russia. So talking about the restoration of the Nord Stream 1 or 2 is a completely incorrect direction of the discussion,” Habek emphasized in a brussel briefing.
The Nord Stream 1 worked from 2011 to 2022, while the Nord Stream 2 was not launched due to a full -fledged aggression by the Russian Federation in Ukraine. In September 2022, both Nord Stream 1 threads and a Nord Stream 2 thread were damaged by explosions, the responsibility of which no officially was taken.
Habek declared that the future of the German government could forget the lessons of energy hope in Russia, as it was the coalition of democratic social and conservatives who once built this addiction.
“I remember that the lessons of 2022 could be forgotten,” he added.
After reducing gas supplies from the Russian Federation in 2022, the energy crisis faced Europe, in turn, Norway became the main gas supplier for Germany.
Despite Russian Gazprom’s hope for restoring exports to Europe if there is a change in political course, Berlin has confirmed his commitment to independence from Russia’s energy sources.
In particular, the Ministry of Economics emphasized that Russia’s gas freedom is strategically important, and that Nord Stream 2 is not certified and unable to commission.
Earlier it was learned that the United States was developing a project to restart the Russian gas pipeline severnoye-2 in Europe with the support of American investors.
But soon they reported that German authorities were considering the refinement of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline after reports of secret negotiations between the United States and Russia on its sale to American investors.
Keep in mind that in September 2023, one of the two pipelines of the northern stream-2 was damaged as a result of a sabotage. Another northern stream-2 gas pipeline with a capacity of 27.5 billion cubic gas meters per year was not injured, but was never used. By the end of January 2025, Denmark allowed the Gazprom subsidiary to maintain the North Stream-2 gas pipeline in the Baltic Sea by caution.
EU is not interested in starting the Nord Stream-2
