Michael Saakashvili received another prison term in Georgia.
On March 17, the Tbilisi City Court sentenced the former President of Georgia to 4.6 years in prison for illegally crossing the border with the Georgian border in October 2021. The decision was made by judge Mikhail Ginger, reports Radio Liberty.
It is noted that Saakashvili wanted to attend the hearing today and talk with the last speech, but was not allowed. In addition, the ex-president did not participate in the meeting and remotely from the hospital where he is now.
It is known that Mikhail Saakashvili returned to Georgia on October 1, 2021. The investigation believes that he secretly crossed the border, hiding in a cargo trailer. He was arrested on the same day. The prosecutor’s office opened a criminal case against him in accordance with art. 344 of the Criminal Code regarding the illegal crossing of the state border.
We recall that earlier Michael Saakashvili was sentenced to 9 years in prison for spending public funds. Georgian media notes that the total prison term is 12 years and six months.
