Beijing will not “add fuel to the flames of the Ukrainian crisis,” but it will not “sit idle,” the country’s Foreign Minister said.
China is not involved in the war with Ukraine, but does not intend to “sit idly by” watching the situation. This was announced on July 17 by the press service of the Chinese Foreign Ministry following telephone conversations between the head of the department, Wang Yi, and his Hungarian counterpart, Peter Szijjártó.
The Chinese minister stressed that the situation in Ukraine has a serious impact not only in Europe, but around the world.
He recalled that at the recent meeting of Foreign Ministers of the G20 countries in Indonesia, Beijing shared proposals to address the issue of global food and energy security.
Wang Yi added that China would not “add fuel to the fire” of the war in Ukraine.
“The lessons of the crisis in Ukraine are profound and deserve serious study by all parties. In the long run, all parties must discuss creating a balanced, effective and sustainable European security architecture to achieve lasting peace and security, ”the diplomat said.
It will be recalled that last month, Chinese leader Xi Jinping spoke on the phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which the parties discussed the situation in Ukraine.
According to media reports, in a conversation, the Chinese leader refused to condemn Russia’s actions in Ukraine or identify them as an aggression and “called for a solution to the problem through negotiations.”
