Belgium’s defense minister, Theo Franken, was announced at a meeting with the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky on Thursday offered Kyiv military assistance about a billion euros. He said this in the air of the VRT radio station.
Franken noted that it included financing for the purchase of ammunition, as well as to strengthen the air defense system and the supply of F-16 aircraft.
The minister confirmed that Zelensky accepted the proposal, and also suggested several counters -impositions currently being studied by the general staff of the armed forces of Ukraine and Belgium Budget Services.
“Belgium can do more for Ukraine, but it requires a government discussion,” Frankin said, indicating the possibility of further support in the future.
In particular, the help, mentioned, consists of 216 million euros to buy 155 mm shells at the Czech initiative and 200 million euros for air defense as part of an German initiative. In addition, Belgium is ready to provide Ukraine with F-16 aircraft.
The minister also announced his upcoming visit to Ukraine along with prime minister Bart de Vever and Foreign Minister Maxim Plarta in early April. The delegation will be accompanied by representatives of the Belgian military-industrial complex.
