In the Zhytomyr region, a 55-year-old man is suspected of abuse about the graves of four fallen defenders of Ukraine.
This was reported by the press service of the police and the prosecutor’s office of the region of the Zhitomir.
The motive for these crimes is the desire for illegal material benefits obtained from the realization of values stolen from graves, ”the Zhitomir regional prosecutor’s office says.
It is noted that law enforcement officers began the corresponding investigation at the end of 2024 – they were addressed by a local resident who noticed a mess on the graves of her two sons protecting Ukraine from Russian invaders. She discovered the absence of a metal flagport with the flags of Ukraine and the forces of the Air Force of the Armed Forces.
The police established participation in the crime of a 55-year-old resident of the victim. Earlier, he was repeatedly convicted of property crimes, and in 2017 he also committed similar illegal actions in the cemetery, the police said.
During the preliminary investigation, it was found that the suspect was involved in two more thefts of the flag and metal poles from the graves of fallen defenders in the same cemetery.
So, now he is accused:
- To overestimate the graves of military personnel for selfish and hooligan motifs (part 3 of Article 297 of the Criminal Code),
- Theft in martial law (part 4 of Article 185 of the Criminal Code).
The materials are sent to the court, the accused suffers up to eight years in prison.
