Ursula von der Leyen proposed to immediately extend the sanctions against Moscow until January 2023.
The European Commission has proposed a seventh package of sanctions against Russia, including an embargo on gold exports. This was stated by EC President Ursula von der Leyen on Friday, July 17.
“Russia’s brutal war against Ukraine is relentless. Therefore, we now propose to tighten our tough EU sanctions against the Kremlin, strengthen their implementation and extend them until January 2023. Moscow must continue to pay a high price for its aggression, ”the head of the European Commission said.
In addition to a ban on gold exports, the proposed sanctions include increased control over exports and the dual use of advanced technologies. At the same time, the new package will strengthen the compatibility of EU sanctions with G7 partners.
The document also states that EU sanctions are not aimed at trade in agricultural products between third countries and Russia. The text also gives the exact amount of certain financial and economic penalties.
“Today this package will be discussed by member states in the EU Council in connection with its adoption,” the European Commission added.
Remember that the EU sees the results of sanctions against the Russian Federation. They are slowly starting to hit the Russian economy. Russia’s exports are the hardest.
