Protesters say they cannot compete with grain from Ukraine and require changes in the European Union policy.
Czech and Slovak farmers on Thursday, February 27, blocked the border crossing the common border near the city of Golich’s Slovak. Thus, they protest against cheap imports from markets that are not part of the EU, in particular, from Ukraine and South America, Reuters reports.
Farmers pushed twelve -two tractors with banners where they stopped working on the crossing border.
Protesters said they could not compete with grain from Ukraine due to the fact that they had to deal with unfair restrictions on standards and bureaucracy, and needed changes in the European Union policy.
On Thursday, farmers from Hungary and Austria along with posters “stop grain from Ukraine” and the “Green Agreement is a dead end” also entered the protest rally, the latter where the EU climatic approach remembers.
The protests were primarily directed against the agreement between the EU and the American Bloc Merkosur, which ended in December, as well as against the release of imports from Ukraine from duty.
The protests were passed on to other border sections, including Poland border intersections.
Farm associations have asked to hinder a agreement with Merkosur (South America) and conclude a new agreement with Ukraine, to protect EU agriculture, and also reduce bureaucracy from the EU.
Remember that from November 2023 to the day of 2024, the poles occasionally blocked the checkpoints at the border with Ukraine. They asked to ban the importation of agricultural products from Ukraine.
